Hi, name is Denise I am an Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury and Chiari Malformation survivor. Almost 7 years ago, my life changed forever when I became disabled after having 8 surgeries on my Thoracic Spine from T2-T9 to remove the arachnoid cysts which were compressing my spinal cord. Currently, I have a Cyst(s) to Plueral Shunt, which drains the CSF from the arachnoid cysts to my right plueral sac. I continue to do my best to stay active and enjoy being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, crafting, writing, and gardening when I can.

In my professional life, I have retired from Health Care with over 26 years of experience.  I have worked in public health as well as in long term care and acute care.  I have a B.A. in Sociology with an emphasis in Social Work. But my most important role is being a wife, mother, stepmother, and grandmother.

 As I continue to navigate life while living with my injuries, chronic pain, and bouts of depression I am regaining self-confidence all the while learning to feel beautiful again. I continue to deal with doctors, insurance companies, medications, and treatments which can be overwhelming at times. With lots of prayer, God’s grace and mercy, plus my amazing family and friends I am Thriving beyond disABILITY.
