Linda Mitchell is a native of Durham, NC, and a graduate of Durham High School, which is now known as Durham School of the Arts. She pursued her undergraduate degree in middle-grade education with a specialization in English language arts for grades 4-9. After completing her undergraduate studies, she returned to her alma mater to earn a Masters degree in School Administration.
Ms. Mitchell’s teaching career began in 1984 when she taught for seven years in a military community in Beaufort, South Carolina. Afterward, she taught for four years in Craven County schools in eastern NC before eventually returning to Durham. Since 1997, Ms. Mitchell has been a part of the Durham Public Schools system.
Currently, Ms. Mitchell works as a 6th-grade English Language Arts (ELA) teacher at Lowe’s Grove Magnet Middle School. Alongside her teaching responsibilities, she is actively involved in her community and is an active member of Faith Tabernacle Church. Within the church, she participates in the gospel choir, and missionary auxiliary, and also serves as a Sunday school teacher.
Ms. Mitchell is a dedicated mother, with three adult children named Mark Jr. Ryann, and Angelica. Apart from being a mother and teacher, she describes herself as a self-proclaimed workaholic. She finds pleasure in meticulously planning “perfect” lessons for her students, demonstrating her commitment to their education and growth.
