Biography
Biography | Jacqueline Kern, Ph.D. is a dynamic professional who is both right-brain creative and left-brain detail orientated—artist, art educator, adjunct professor, tutor, published author, designer, home stager, and administrator. As an artist and educator, Kern’s studies culminated in a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts: Painting and Drawing from Purchase College State University of New York and a Master of Science in Education: General Studies with a minor in Visual Arts and a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning with a minor in Visual Arts from the University of North Dakota. Kern’s classroom, whether on-site or remote, is an exciting and active learning lab where curiosity, creative thinking, problem-solving, practice and production, collaboration, assessment of experience, and real-world applications are key components for student success. When teaching courses in studio visual arts, art appreciation, art history, fine arts, and humanities as well as multicultural education and diverse populations, Kern makes connections to historical, religious, cultural, geographical, economic, environmental, technological, and contemporary issues. Kern has experience teaching ages three through adult, Grades K–8, dual-enrolled high school students, traditional and adult learners, and an online graduate school course for art educators. Kern offers over 20 years of experience building vibrant and successful learning communities across disciplines and departments that include diverse students and differing abilities. As Coordinator and Director of Academic Programs at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Kern mentored and academically advised traditional college students and adult learners in eight (8) degree programs. Kern was the first Director of Student Affairs at the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University—the nation’s only free-standing honors college connected to a university. Kern conducted three distinct roles as Assistant Director of Diversity Student Services at FAU: Office for Students with Disabilities, International Student Services, and Multicultural Affairs. Kern is a professional contemporary artist who creates paintings, drawings, and multimedia artworks and explores ways artists use their creativity in real-life applications especially in relation to the human condition and within cultural and social contexts. Her major exhibition at the Sumter County Gallery of Art presented her Dollhouse Dreams & Abstractions artworks and engaged the community in a lively dialogue during opening night.
