My name is Morgan Wassman.

I am an artist and a musician. I am also a caregiver. I have been doing art as long as I can remember, and I have always enjoyed helping and caring for others.

Over two decades ago, I chose to do my high school senior project all about art therapy. That was long before I had ever really heard of any other art therapists or art therapy programs. I have always felt like expressing myself through art has helped me move through my feelings and navigate my emotions so I wanted to help others experience that for themselves. I took some college classes after high school and learned so much about art and music over the years. Eventually I took a training course and became a certified home care aid through the state of Washington.

I worked with children for many years as a caregiver and a nanny. I also take started taking care of my uncle who has schizophrenia. I am always trying to incorporate art into our daily routine. About 10 years ago I landed a job as an Art therapist helping an older man who has schizophrenia. I had expressed interest and enthusiasm in becoming an art therapist and I was hired by my clients sister in law. I am very lucky and I consider it a manifestation! We do art on a regular basis and his family and I have noticed such immense growth and progress in his ability to not only produce art, but to regulate his emotions and gain self confidence.

I love what I do, but I want to do better and learn more. I am hungry for more knowledge on this subject and hope to help more people who have learning disabilities or who have experienced trauma by using these wonderful skills in the future.
