Biography
Biography | Acrylic artist, Amy Allen, spent the first 30 years of her life moving constantly, switching towns, schools, and homes every year or two before settling in NE Kansas for 18 years, and finally moving to the Pacific Northwest in 2024. These continual transitions fueled her curiosity and instilled a love of exploration, seeing new places, and learning new things.
Amy holds a masters degree in clinical psychology and a 16 year history of working professionally with children and families in the mental health setting. She often used play therapy and the arts to assist children and families in working through and expressing difficult emotions as they processed issues ranging from overwhelming life adjustments to devastating trauma. She left her psychology career to homeschool her children through their 6th grade year. During this time, she focused more on her art practice, turning it into a new career. In 2024, one of her children was diagnosed with a significant life changing condition, which prompted her family to live life to the fullest and fulfill their dreams of moving to the Pacific Northwest. Her professional and personal life experiences influence her art practice. Amy creates her pieces in the dot art style incorporating thousands of hand-painted dots, bright colors, mandalas, basic shapes and texture. Her art has evolved to focus on appealing to the part of self that is full of joy, wonder, and curiosity about the natural world and universe. In addition to appealing to the part of self that is aware of our connection to each other and all living things. Her art often has a theme of self-healing and empowerment, often coupled with elements from nature and the universe including the sun/moon and sacred geometry. She hopes that viewing her art will spark a moment of joy and wonder in the viewer.
She has exhibited her artwork in several galleries, fairs, and shows throughout the NE Kansas region, and won multiple awards. She is a member of the Topeka 2022 Artist Inc cohort. Her art has been published in the international datebook, We’Moon, for six years in a row (2020-2025). Her piece, Solar Wind, has been used on CBS Sunday Morning several times in 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2024. Solar Wind was also the featured art piece at the Aaron Douglas Art Fair in 2023, for which she was the featured artist that year.
