My name is Sylvia C. Anderson. 65years of age. A native New Orleanian living in Alabama, pre-Katrina for 35 yrs.
I attended a 4-year college in my hometown just after high school, majoring in nursing and minoring in art. In my third year of nursing, I felt as though the courses were a bit too stressful and decided to enter completely into my Fine Arts as the major. I’d attained enough credits in art to complete and graduate that last year receiving a bachelor’s in fine arts degree.
I knew in my heart I really should have completely nursing school. So, I went on a mission to find maybe a school that combined the two areas of study. ie: Medical-Arts. To no avail during that time there was nothing found. In my search I came across this very interesting school of allied health sciences in surgical technology.
Applied, was overqualified but, they accepted. I’ve been practicing/working as a Surgical Technologist for over 40 years. Presently in what I call, “flextirement” Retired but still working. Now I’m looking to do that “something different.” I’ve found that “medical-arts” I was looking for so many years ago. Art therapy!
