Trying to stay consistent without burning out

Lately I keep bouncing between super-motivated days and then stretches where my brain feels like wet cardboard and I can’t stick to anything. It’s not that I don’t care; I just lose focus fast and end up wasting hours scrolling. Is there an actual method to build habits without forcing productivity or hating yourself when energy dips? I’m tired of starting over every week — I just want something steady but realistic.

Totally get that. The worst part isn’t the low-energy days — it’s the guilt that makes you feel like you’ve failed, which ironically kills motivation even more. What helped me was shifting from “I must be motivated every day” to “I just need minimum-effort momentum.” Small, boring routines beat dramatic bursts. Think in terms of rhythm instead of pressure. Journaling feelings + micro-tasks works well, and you don’t need long morning rituals; even a two-minute check-in matters. When I tried tools focused on self-awareness instead of hustle, like using liven to track my mood alongside simple goals, it shifted everything. I stopped judging dips and started noticing patterns — and that’s when progress actually felt sustainable. Don’t chase hype, chase awareness and tiny wins.

I get that as well. I just think of redoing and rereading as reviewing but when I’m ready to do the tests I re-read the notes or summaries and then do the test. I try to listen to the recording throughout the day knowing I won’t catch everything but it’s surprising how even when not paying close attention to every word you tend to pick up. I don’t think this method will solve your particular situation but it’s just another way so don’t beat yourself up.

When I have those kind of days, I try to focus on maybe doing a doodle or some other project. I find I get inspired to proceed when I’ve taken care of myself. Hang in there you’ve got this.
