Kamisha Thomas is a multidisciplinary artist from Columbus, Ohio, whose work is deeply rooted in resilience, advocacy, and the transformative power of creativity. Her unique perspective, shaped by personal experiences and a passion for lifelong learning, brings an authentic and thought-provoking voice to her art.
After spending seven and a half years in prison, Kamisha co-founded the Returning Artists Guild (RAG) to preserve the sense of community, support, and healing she found through arts programming during her incarceration. Guided by a passion for teaching and creating beauty in all forms, she dedicates her work to fostering connection, inspiring critical thought, and amplifying marginalized voices.
An accomplished artist and advocate, Kamisha has been recognized as an Art for Justice grantee and a Right of Return grantee. She is committed to advocating for prison abolition, supporting fellow artists, and challenging systemic inequities through her work. Kamisha’s art embodies her belief in its therapeutic benefits, offering a platform to confront and dismantle systemic abuse experienced by Black and Brown individuals.
