Karla T. Moreno is a Mental Health Clinician who heads the Psychology Department at GEO Group, Inc. at Val Verde Correctional Detention Facility in Del Rio, Texas.  Karla provides a full range of mental health outpatient services such as initial assessments, treatment planning, supportive counseling, case management and suicide risk assessments.  Karla also responds to psychological emergencies and provides crisis intervention. She is a Prison Rape Elimination Act Team Member, a Step-Up Program Team member and the Team Lead for the Suicide Prevention Committee at her facility.  Prior to Karla’s clinical role, she was a High School Biology Teacher, Head Varsity Tennis Coach and Jr. High School Counselor for Eagle Pass Independent School District.  She led the district’s critical response team, from 2010 to 2017.  Awards that Karla has received are Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in 2002, and Employee of the Month at Val Verde Correctional Detention Facility in 2023.   Karla holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Master’s of Education in Counseling Degree from Sul Ross Rio Grande College.  She has been Licensed in the State of Texas as a Professional Counselor since 2008 and currently supervises interns who aspire to be professional counselors.   Service is a huge part of Karla’s life.  She has served the youth at her church for over 15 years.  One of her favorite quotes comes from that of Mother Teresa:  “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”  Karla has been happily married to Vale Moreno, for 26 years and is the proud mother of 24 year old twin daughters, Hannah and Savannah.
