Biography
| Biography | Hailing from a long lineage of artists and musicians, Victoria Lawrence carries the torch as a multi-media visionary artist. Her journey into creativity began when her grandmother, an avid oil painter, put a brush in her hand as soon as she could hold it. Discovering the tools of the craft created a platform for self expression which seemed to flow forth effortlessly, especially when listening to “Magic Music,” the four year old’s definition of Pink Floyd. The Phantom of the Opera soundtrack, Chopin, Loreena McKennitt, and the ultimate vinyl collection of Classic Rock became the soundtrack of her youth. It was within this realm of visual expression where the artist spent half of her free time. The other half was given to Nature – playing in the woods, riding bikes, swimming, climbing trees. It was in the meeting of these two worlds where her passion was found. Through this wisdom of intrinsic connection, a vision blossomed. The simple yet profound realization that we are all united and interdependent revealed a meaningful goal: To create artwork that enhances our understanding of this magical world we share and to remind us of our responsibility to preserve that beauty which protects and nurtures us on every step of our path in this life. Her first exhibition of paintings came in 2002, when Victoria was only 13 years old. At 16, she was awarded entry into an international juried show, “In Response to Healing.” This traveling exhibit awarded her the opportunity to give three lectures on the nature of her work at Ohio State University campuses in Columbia and Newark. She has continued exhibiting art in local galleries until the present day. From 2009 – 2013, Victoria apprenticed under tattoo artist, Jerry Becker, and co-owned Jerry B’s Tattooing in Hamburg, PA. After the transition to tattoo art, a macabre theme emerged in her paintings and drawings. This era of creating through a lens darkly gave way to some of the most potent and intense works in Victoria’s catalog. The occasional odd, eerie, or heavy work still emerges from time to time.By the end of 2013, a call to develop an unfamiliar art-form was heard, and Victoria began studying graphic design. She went to work for a private company in Kutztown, PA. As the lead graphic artist, she handled all photo-editing, custom album design, social media management, and web design. When the company began to dissolve in 2019, Victoria decided to take an emboldened leap into a full-time career making and selling her artwork.Through constant dedication, she has refined her vision and created a life as an artist. Investing in a professional festival set-up, creating prints and a variety of other art gifts, Victoria stepped into a self-made dream and continues to expand on and explore the multitude of possibilities therein. Within the first year of full-time art sales, she received an Honorable Mention at a prominent annual art festival in Havre De Grace, MD and a Best in Show at Bel Air Festival of the Arts. To be met with such approval so early on in these acclaimed juried festivals was a clear sign of the success to come. Today, Victoria Lawrence expands her following through galleries, boutiques, and in person at festivals and pop-up events. She continues to receive awards and accolades for her creations. She finds balance between her passions of painting, woodworking, mountain biking, and gardening. |
