I taught undergraduate students Obstetric (N439), Community Health Nursing (N471), Nursing Fundamentals (N205), Leadership (N455-online, N460), and Ethics (N475); and mentored/advised several graduate students in completion of their DNP/PhD requirements.

I was as an academic leader in the college, serving as Course Coordinator (CC) over the past seven years for community health nursing (9-semesters), and as CC for care of the childbearing family (8 semesters), and (one semester as CC for nursing leadership).

In my role with an interdisciplinary team of researchers at MSU, we received several internal seed grants and successfully published 13 peer-reviewed articles, with three publications that examined the birthing experiences of Black birthing persons (BBP) and Black fathers. BBPs in the United States continue to receive substandard birthing care often resulting in harms. Much work is needed to improve birthing outcomes, and Michigan too has challenges to improve upon.

My overall acute care obstetrical nursing career is replete with examples of service in leadership positions across four states (Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan, and Indiana). Prior to my academic experiences at Michigan State University, I was Director of Nursing at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, Indiana for twelve consecutive years.

I retired from my academic position on January 5, 2024, and I am interested in helping women who had unexpected birthing experiences to use art as a medium to  their healing process.
