Biography

Biography

Julie Quinn is an abstract painter whose work explores the emotional and spiritual terrain of memory, grief, belonging and quiet transformation.  Working primarily on clayboard with layered acrylics, oils and other mixed media, she builds atmospheric surfaces through scratching, veils of color and dark vein-like passages that feel both geological and intimate.  Her paintings often live in the space between rupture and healing, where fracture becomes a pathway to light and inner stillness.  Julie was born in Tachikawa, Japan and carries a deep awareness of place, origin, and longing, and these early roots continue to echo through her work. Her paintings are not literal landscapes, but maps of the unseen- inner terrain shaped by faith, loss, resilience, and the search for home.  She has lived with profound personal pain, loss and grief, and yet continues to choose grace, beauty, and hope in every moment…and that choice is what gives her work its quiet strength. Her practice is prayerful and intuitive, grounded in the belief that the studio can be a sacred place. Quinn begins each painting by inviting divine spiritual presence into it’s making and creating from a desire to offer viewers something true…not escape, but companionship in the human experience of sorrow, endurance, and becoming. Her work has found strong resonance in contemplative abstract painting, and she continues to develop an even more deeply refined and meaningful body of work with courage, trust, restraint, and emotional honesty.
